The Project for Developing Alzheimer’s and Dementia Preventive Products in Geriatrics through University–Industry Collaboration Received TÜBİTAK Support

The project titled “Biotechnological Extract Production from Lion’s Mane Mushroom and Evaluation of Its Potential in Geriatrics,” in which Dr. Selime Semra Erol, a faculty member at the Department of Medical Biology, Faculty of Medicine at Yalova University, is involved as a researcher, and which will be carried out under the coordination of ENA Farma Health Products Manufacturing and Foreign Trade Inc., has been granted support under the 1507 - TÜBİTAK SME R&D Start-up Support Program.

The study represents a strong example of university–industry collaboration, combining Yalova University’s academic research capacity with ENA Farma’s R&D activities and industrial production capabilities, which are focused on developing innovative and high value-added products.

Within the scope of the pilot project, the potential effects of bioactive compounds obtained from Lion’s Mane mushroom on preserving cognitive functions and preventing neurodegenerative diseases in elderly individuals will be scientifically evaluated. The results of the study are expected to lay the groundwork for the industrial-scale production and commercialization of biotechnological products with high commercial value for the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

As Yalova University, we take great satisfaction in such collaborations that transform scientific knowledge into industrial applications, contributing to public health and enhancing our country’s capacity for innovative product development. We congratulate the project team on their achievement.
