Continuously expanding its vision through innovative projects in the field of health sciences, the Faculty of Medicine at Yalova University has achieved a great source of pride by bringing these efforts to the national stage.
With the valuable contributions of our faculty members from the Department of Medical Biology, Assistant Professor Selime Semra Erol and Assistant Professor Ümran Alan, the project was awarded first place in the field of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (GETAT) within the scope of the “2026-A1 Project Competition for Undergraduate Students: A Strong Step Toward a Productive Healthcare Ecosystem”, organized by the Turkish Health Institutes Presidency (TÜSEB).
The project, entitled “Development of Exosomes Derived from Hericium erinaceus Mycelium as Targeted Drug Delivery Vehicles for Parkinson’s Disease Using the C. elegans Model and Investigation of Their Neuroprotective Effects,” was supervised by Assistant Professor Selime Semra Erol, with Assistant Professor Ümran Alan serving as a researcher. Following a rigorous evaluation process, the project was selected as the best study in its field.
Offering an innovative and alternative approach to the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, this visionary study focuses on the use of medicinal mushroom-derived exosomes as smart and targeted drug delivery systems. The study also provides valuable contributions to the scientific literature by investigating their potential neuroprotective effects.
Serving as an excellent example of the integration of education and research, the project also involved Edanur Can as the project leader and Sevil Ahmet as a researcher.
As the Faculty of Medicine at Yalova University, we wholeheartedly congratulate Assistant Professor Selime Semra Erol, Assistant Professor Ümran Alan, and the entire project team for their valuable contributions to our university’s scientific visibility and innovative research vision. We wish them continued success and many more outstanding scientific achievements in the future.
